Plymouth born Samuel Prout was another prolific watercolour artist who became Water-Colours in Ordinary to King George IV (and later to Queen Victoria).

In 1816 he made a visit to Haverfordwest and made a study of the priory reproduced in this print. However when I viewed the print the arrangement seemed odd especially the position of the castle and quay in the background.

Comparing it to his later work it became obvious that etching the plate for print making had produced the image in reverse.
