Old drawings of Haverfordwest are more than pretty pictures to be admired because they often show us what has (or what hasn’t) changed over the years.

While many locations are immediately recognisable we find, if we look closely, numerous changes to the scene – it might be how the buildings are used, the unfamiliar sight of shipping at the centre of the town, or even the appearance of the people in the streets.

In other situations the view has changed totally so that landmarks such as the Moravian Church or Marychurch Foundry have long since vanished.

Some of the earliest drawing available pre-date photography by more than a century and as such are the only visual record we have of the town from that period.
