Haverfordwest has been a subject for photographers for more than 150 years with the earliest pictures taken in the early 1860’s during the pioneering days of photography.
Some of the best early photographs have a level of detail that captures a lost age that no-one alive today will have seen or experienced. But while black and white photographs cause us to focus on the detail of the picture they leave us feeling detached and remote from the scene because most of us see and experience the world in colour.
Occasionally I have come across very old postcards that have been hand coloured and the best of those can bring a scene to life although such images are few and far between.
But recently I have experimented with digitally enhancing old black and white photographs to add colour, the effects can be dramatic.
On each of the pictures you will see a green bar near the centre - place your mouse pointer over the bar and holding down your left mouse button move the bar from side to side.
