Scotchwells Walk was created in the early 20th Century by the Haverfordwest Town Improvement Committee and opened with great ceremony on Thursday 25th June 1908.

You can see the whole report here.

A popular walk and leisure area it was bounded on the south-east by Cartlett Brook and to the north by a leat which fed cooling water to the adjacent power station, originally the leat powered the local corn mill.

In the 1960’s when Cambria House was built (itself demolished early this century) the lower part of Cartlett Brook was covered over for the construction of a car park.

Scotchwells Walk remained popular until the 1970’s when it was converted into a car park. Major road works in the 1970’s & 1980’s resulted in much of the brook being encased in concrete although a very small section on the centre of the Salutation Square roundabout remains open to the air.
